Broumov key competition

14th edition of the prestigious international competition for young pianists
You can register using the registration form, which can be found at this link: https://forms.gle/nS2smscbNV1U2uyY8

The competition is a great platform for international confrontation of young pianists, at an age crucial for their development (up to 17 years old). In this sense, it is one of the very few events of similar parameters in the Czech Republic. It fulfils the idea of cross-border cooperation with neighbouring countries due to the strong representation of their participants and adjudicators at the competition. Every year it sets a mirror to the Czech pedagogy and indirectly points out areas where improvement is needed. It introduces the most outstanding talents of the younger generation to prominent figures in classical music who can help them in the future to launch their artistic careers. The whole idea is based on the proven system of children's music education and the long tradition of children's competitions in the Czech Republic. Young musicians not only have the opportunity to confront each other on an international level, but also to come into contact with top personalities of Czech and foreign piano art and representatives of leading musical institutions.

Conditions

Maximum age 17 years (inclusive).
At least 1 piece from the Baroque or Classical period, at least 1 piece from the Romantic period or a piece composed after 1900.

Organization, programm

The competition takes place in the Dřevník Cultural Hall in the garden of the Broumov Monastery, which has very favourable acoustic conditions and facilities for the organisation. The monastery's halls, which are equipped with pianos and upright pianos, offer plenty of practice classes. The monastery also offers accommodation for the competitors in renovated monks' cells called the Guest House. The rooms are located directly on the monastery premises, so there is no need to leave the Broumov monastery at all when moving to the competition hall or practice rooms. For several years, the competition has been partnered by the Drnek pianos company, which provides Steinway concert grand pianos and practice pianos.

Prizes in the competition

The jury's evaluation is open to the public and the contestants have the opportunity to consult directly with the members of the jury. After each category, debates with the expert jury are held for participants and teachers.
A great asset of the competition is the agreement with renowned external organizers to perform the young laureates of the competition in their seasons, at festivals or other events. Thus, the best participants of the competition in each category receive, in addition to the financial prizes for the 1st, 2nd and 3rd prizes of the respective categories, a concert award, which is motivating and of great importance in their solo development. The concert prizes for the winners are for example:
the opportunity to perform at the Za poklady Broumovska festival, which offers a performance to the selected winner as part of the support of the young generation, the West Bohemian Symphony Orchestra Mariánské Lázně prize - a concert for the selected winner, the Karlovy Vary Symphony Orchestra prize - a concert as part of one of the KSO subscription season series, the Dvořák Prague Festival prize - a concert for the selected winner.
For young pianists, gaining stage experience is crucial at this stage of their artistic growth, which is why these individual performances form the main prizes of the competition. The performers thus have
the opportunity to introduce themselves to a wide audience, gain invaluable experience for their further artistic development and lay the foundations for their future artistic career.
