International Cello Competition 2024

The main organizer of the International Cello Competition at the Academy
of Performing Arts in Bratislava is the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy
of Performing Arts in Bratislava.

Conditions

• There is no minimum age limit for either of the categories.
• Contestants born after September 13, 2002 may compete in both categories. However,
no composition of the competition repertoire of one category may be used in the
other.
• A contestant under the age of 18 is entered into the competition by his / her legal representative.
• The cello competition in Category I (up to the age of 21) is held in two rounds and in
Category II (up to the age of 30) in three rounds.
• Usually 12 contestants proceed to the second round in each Category.
• Three contestants proceed to the third round in Category II (up to the age of 30).
• The contest is preceded by a preliminary selection round evaluated on the basis of
submitted recordings.

September 11 Competition round 2, announcing the winners
September 12 Masterclass for cellists, feedback session with jury
Category II – up to the age of 30
September 6 acoustic rehearsals, opening ceremony
September 7 Competition round 1
September 8 Competition round 1
September 9 acoustic rehearsals for Competition round 2 with piano and chamber
orchestra
September 10 Competition round 2
September 11 rehearsal with orchestra for Competition round 3
September 12 Competition round 3 with orchestra, winners announcement, awards
ceremony
• Competition rounds 1 and 2 for both categories take place in DVORANA concert hall
at the Music and Dance Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts. Third round will
be held in cooperation with the Slovak Radio Symphony Orchestra in the large concert
studio of Slovak Radio Building.
• The organizer reserves the right to make any changes in the above-stated schedule.
• More detailed schedule will be sent to contestants not later than two weeks before the
competition.
• Competition performances are public.
